Italy’s Andre Sakakini Wins Longines Speed Stakes

Dubai, UAE, January 29, 2016 – The Gulf News Dubai Cup-Qualifier headlined the second day of the Dubai Showjumping Championship 2016 CSI***-W as Turkey’s Omer Karaevli secured the win aboard Rabane De Sury in 62.06. The contest serves as the qualifier for closing day’s Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI World Cup Qualifier.

The class included a field of 46 competitors with prize money of AED120,000 being offered.  Karaevli will now lead the field for Saturday’s Dubai Grand Prix, an FEI World Cup Qualifier,  the headline event of the three-day Dubai Show Jumping Championship. David Will of Germany, who won the Emirates Airlines Two Phases on Thursday, collected second place as he guided Monodie H to a time of 63.38. Close behind in third was the Italian rider, Andre Sakakini and his horse HW’s Saskia with a time of 63.60

In the closing event of the second day, the tightly contested Longines Speed Stakes, after finishing third in the opening Dubai Cup-Qualifier, Sakakini returned to pilot Carott G to the victory in 59.46. Tina Lund of Denmark was runner up with a time of 59.80 aboard Wendy B. The UAE’s Sheikh Ali Al Qasimi finished third on Jument Dufee in a time of 62.18 in the class that included 27 competitors.

The schedule for Saturday’s three classes will be the Longines Accumulator at 11:30 am; the Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI World Cup Qualifier at 3pm; and the Emirates Equestrian Centre Trophy at 6:15pm.

Gates Open at 11am and entrance is free with entertainment for the entire family including pony rides, children’s play area, displays and drill rides by the Dubai Pony Club. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.
